Tips on how to have a healthy and positive mindset:
Self-love is a tough concept for many people, especially living in a society where we are constantly comparing ourselves to others. But you were born the way you are for a reason – because you are unique! No two people are the same, and your version of success should only be about what is important to you, not about what other people are doing! Focus on being the very best version of YOU every day and you will be less likely to compare yourself to others, feeling much happier in the end!
Our lives can be very hectic and overwhelming at times, making it easy to forget about what is really important in life. Making a habit of practicing gratitude and consciously identifying things that you are grateful for in your life will have a lasting impact on the brain and your mood. Practicing gratitude unshackles us from toxic emotions, enhances empathy and reduces aggression. There are many ways to practice gratitude, but studies have found one of the best ways is through gratitude journaling.
Many of us spend way too much time worrying about things we cannot control, causing feelings of disappointment, stress, and anger. Instead, identify and break down things in your own life that you CAN control and put all of your focus and energy towards achieving them! Avoid making decisions out of anger and remember that an important part of life is understanding what you should and shouldn’t focus your attention on.
Now, we're not talking the Freudian definition of ego—a mediator of sorts between the id (base desires) and the superego (idealistic desires). What we're talking about is the ego that keeps you locked away in your own little world, separated from the present moment. The ego used to have an important job—getting us all hyped up and aware of our surroundings in case a saber-toothed tiger was lurking around the corner. These days we don't run into dangers like that all that often. But the ego needs to feel employed and important. It does this by inspiring fear, self-judgment, and judgment of others. Your ego thrives on negativity, so whenever you catch yourself getting negative, try to come back to gratitude and see how life opens up for you. If you need more motivation, start a complaining fund—every time you catch yourself complaining, drop a quarter into a jar. The ego always wants to improve on the current moment. Don't let it draw you down that path. Breathe.
Meditation is the habitual process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. You can use it to increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings. Many people think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration, but with practicing even just 5 mins everyday will improve your mindset and overall happiness.
We hope these 5 tips help shift you towards a more positive and healthier mindset!
Remember, changes do not happen overnight. Start small by replacing a bad habit for a healthier one — gradually you will learn to focus on prioritizing the things that have the greatest positive impact on your health and wellbeing!
